Chemistry: Grades 9-12      Full-Year Course: $329

This is a fun and engaging comprehensive course that entails basic principles and concepts in the science of chemistry.

Course content includes, but is not limited to:

  • Fundamental principles of subatomic, atomic, and molecular structure and bonds

  • Properties of different phases of matter; reduction/oxidation and other chemical reactions; acids and bases; organic chemistry; and other special topics in chemistry.

 

METHOD OF DELIVERY: Online & On-Site Lab     Max# of Students: 10

The academic portion of the class is delivered online via the DeskTop Learning Academy course website and meets once a week for the students to complete the lab assignments that correlate to their weekly chapter assignments. Chemistry Lab meets at my home in Fredericksburg, VA every Thursday from 1:45pm-2:45pm.

Biology: Grades 9-12      Full-Year Course: $319

This is an interactive, hands-on course that covers the basic principles and concepts in the science of biology.

This course will provide a thorough survey of basic biological principles. Course includes but is not limited to:

 

  • The fundamental principles of biochemistry, cell structure and function, heredity, molecular genetics, evolutionary theory, organism diversity, and ecology.

 

METHOD OF DELIVERY: Online & On-Site Lab      Max# of Students: 10

The academic portion of the class is delivered online via the DeskTop Learning Academy course website and meets once a week for the students to complete the lab assignments that correlate to their weekly chapter assignments. History of the Ancient World: Grades 6-8 & 9-12     

Full-Year Course: $210

This is a comprehensive and interactive,full-year course entails a study of ancient cultures from the earliest written records through the removal of the last Roman “emperor” in 476 AD, with special attention to the interaction between humans and their environment and the relationship of philosophy to the development of states.

U. S. HISTORY I : Grades 6-8 & 9-12     

Full-Year Course: $239

Full-year course. In this course students will investigate, discover, and gain a deeper appreciation for the crucial role that history played in our contemporary world. The course covers colonial discontent, nationalism, and the move toward independence; nationalism, state-making, and the changing role of the federal government; slavery, sectionalism, and the Civil War; westward expansion, the destruction of indigenous populations, and U.S. imperialism; industrialization, urbanization, and Progressive-era reform; eugenics, immigration reform, and reproductive politics; the vicissitudes of capitalism, the Great Depression, and the New Deal; and globalization, warfare, and the Cold War Era.

 

The course is delivered online using various methodologies and resources to include, but it is not limited to online interactive lessons, PowerPoint Lectures, reading assignments, newspapers, maps, films, cartoons, government documents, diaries, and biographies.

Course Description: This fun and innovative course provides the essential foundations for a solid academic writing education. Lessons included entail a myriad of teaching modalities ranging from online learning activities, diagrammed writing samples, PowerPoint lectures, videos, how-to writing exercises, and more...to provide an overview of basic principles that apply to writing projects of for all genres. It focuses on the steps of the writing process and universal characteristics of good writing.   METHOD OF DELIVERY: The academic portion of the course is delivered online and students will meet with me at my home once weekly for Writing Lab. (Parental Consent Form is Required for all registered students). Writing Lab gives the students the opportunity to collaborate on writing projects, share ideas, practice skills, and receive hands-on instruction. Lab Day: Students will meet at my home in Fredericksburg, VA every Tuesday 1:30p-2:45p.  Max# of Students: 15

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

  • demonstrate comprehension of basic grammar, usage, and mechanics rules in their writing.

  • demonstrate an understanding of the writing process by employing the following five steps in composing every paper: pre-writing, drafting, revising, proofreading, publishing.

  • demonstrate an understanding of clarity, coherence, conciseness, and unity.

  • explain the concepts of content, structure, word choice, rhythm, style, and mechanics.

  • write for a variety of purposes, including narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive.

  • respond to feedback on their writing through revising and proofreading.
